So what do we all think of the iPad? Is there really any place in the market for what is essentially a less feature rich iPhone? I’m still struggling to see what I’d actually use one for! There was a lot of hype surrounding the iPad and miraculously Apple managed to keep a lid on the specs right up until the release but now it’s out what is it exactly? It’s not really a laptop although it does do an impression of a laptop. It’s being peddled as a multimedia platform but that’s pretty all encompassing – is it a replacement for paper and a pen for designers? Wireless is still governed by coverage and although it’s a marked improvement on what it used to be its still primarily city dwellers who like to show of gadgets in expensive coffee houses. A decent one will set you back around £600 and with no CD drive it’s hardly ideal, loading everything into iTunes seems a little blinkered – great marketing idea though. I’ve read countless articles and there’s no real definition as to the market it’s aimed at, it kind of failed during the demo as one of the things it was being peddled as is a digital newspaper but sadly no flash support! HELP ME! What the blazes is it?!? Is it one of the most expensive and flashiest GUI’s for iTunes ever made?

Who cares? Its made by Apple, its shiny, featureless and comes in a no frills box.
I’m not sure what the iPad actually is in terms of a product, but its target audience is definitely people who like shiny things that leave the doors of a certain fruit-based technology company.
Could it be an interactive place mat?
I’d buy one *just* to use it as an interactive placement.
It’s a portable mirror / digital picture frame that plays expensive downloads… Can’t believe you couldn’t see that.
) It smacks a little of an attempt to cash in on the iPhone development a bit more. Trying to bleed that investment dry.
Wonder what happens if you plug the iPhone into an iPad? Would it create a singularity?
This is where it is all going.
