Weekend Gaming

by Rich on April 26, 2010

Time to clear out the Monday blues with a quick recap of what gaming we all got up to this weekend.

Most of my weekend was spent building decking outside in the sunshine followed by a BBQ, which was nice, but lacked collectables and extra lives.  I found time to finish Prototype on the Xbox 360 which was good.  The further into the game I got, the more frustrated I became with the lock on system.  Still a good game though and I’m hanging onto it so I can complete the challenges around the city.

After finishing Prototype I fired up Red Faction Guerilla on the Xbox 360.  First impressions are very good.  The scenery destruction is a lot of fun and prompts for some interesting game play.  As an example, during one fire fight, I was facing some Earth Defense forces that were deep in cover.  The vanilla gaming option usually is to shoot it out from behind cover too.  But the destruction options led me to a new path.  I legged it over to the wall that they were hiding behind, whipped out the Sledgehammer and smashed a massive hole in it.  I charged through my new door and finished them off with the sledge.  That had me chuckling; always a great sign.  I’m looking forward to spending some more time on it in the week.

Share what you played and how you felt about it.

I agree the potential for destruction in red faction is amazing. I liked the side missions especially as they range from using a fixed turret to demolish radio towers to blowing up a building with nothing but 5 gas canisters and a pistol!

As for my own gaming on Saturday the love/hate continued with Battlefield Bad company 2; though recently patched server browser is better and it will now remember the search parameters you set (and /Shock remembers the class + load out you used) most servers are still stable as mildly soggy paper bag… the game is still brilliant when it’s working and your in “The Zone” sneaking up to a light tank to plant C4 on it get spotted by the engineer who just nipped out to patch up the paint work kill him, and still detonate the C4 killing the driver and 2 other passengers!

Sunday morning was spent trying to get to grips with To0 Humans on Xbox 360. It’s controls & camera system takes some getting used to I found though.. (I want to shoot this guy ~avatar dashed off screen to slash an enemy I can’t see…~ hmmm I need to work on that). Finally after dieing for the 3rd time I gave up and moved onto Final Fantasy: Ring of Fates on Nintendo DS which I played outside in the garden as it was a beautiful day… until it rained! lol

Heading back inside I thought to fire up Dragon Age: Awakenings (PC ver.) for an hour or too and much to my dismay it wouldn’t bloody load! After checking this, that and the other setting I resigned my self to fully re-installing it though steam (6GB down load… /Sigh). While Steam trundled on I fired up Final Fantasy XIII (having still not escaped the tutorials) on PS3 and played that until 8pm where I jumped onto Warcraft to join a raid on the Lich Kings dungeon.

StarCraft 2 and a bit of Burnout Paradise, not too much at all.
