The City Awaits...A Kickin'

This is an article that we’ve been talking about running for a while now.  It’s a familiar concept on other Blogs/Forums where people post what gaming they got up to at the weekend, if any at all.  I’m going to try and post this once every Monday so people can share what they’ve been playing over the weekend.  So I’ll get the ball rolling:

I picked up Prototype and Red Faction Guerilla on the 360 from the local Blockbuster for £12.95 each.  I’ve been holding out on both because, while they looked like good games, they didn’t look like £40 good games.

I’ve only fired up Prototype so far but it’s certainly a grower.  It starts out by giving you a taste of all the awesome powers you can get in the game before jumping back 18 days to the beginning where you only have a couple to get you started.  The city environment is nice but when you put it next to the likes of GTA 4 it does look a little lacking.  I’ve read that it’s quite a realistic depiction of New York but I’ll have to take their word for it.  As the game progresses the city starts to degrade as a biological virus takes it over.  This is where it really shines.  The virus spreads through the city infecting the public and turning them into zombie like monsters.  The city itself changes with the amount of infection that is currently effecting it.

Those 'copters have gotta pay

The army is in constant shoot outs with the infected and you can either wade in and get involved or leave them to it.  There’re a lot of crazy powers to unlock that really mix up your carnage.  My current favourite power is the claws; one of the first powers you get.   The free roaming map has quite a wide selection of challenges to keep you interested between missions and are quite varied.  Did I mention you can jump kick army helicopters out of the sky!  That alone is worth £12.95 in my book.

So there it is, the first of hopefully many Monday morning weekend gaming posts.

Post what you played:

Kicking helicopters out of the sky sure sounds fun! I got DMC 4, Stranglehold, Beautiful Katamari and Too Human for a mere 20 quid! (Blockbuster again) All good games, DMC allows for the usual ridiculous combos – all ending in a giggle from the player. Stranglehold is fun although I’m on a REALLY tough bit currently – the bit with the Jazz band who cant get hit, cant help but ‘Spray n’ Pray’. Beautiful Katamari is one of those great fun games although gets VERY frustrating and Too Human I’ve only just cracked on with – shows promise but unsure at this early stage. So many games, so little time…

“So many games, so little time…” truer words where never spoken Clay! Last weekend I was getting into bad company 2 and all its frustrating glory… (thank fully EA are patching the server browser on Wednesday!). Other games I bought but only briefly played are X-Men Origins: Wolverine for the 360 and Perfect dark from Xbox live arcade. Other than a short stint on Oblivion (was on special offer on steam at the time and I’ve lost my original copy) most of my Sunday night was taking by that well know time sink World of Warcraft… We’re coming for you Mr Lich king!

I’d like to agree that after watching Rich kicking helicopters out of the sky, I wouldn’t mind that virus for a day just to go around Ninja-ing stuff:)
My weekend on the other hand was a little slower paced with me playing Harvest Moon on our new Nintendo DSI XL. Not so action packed but I love it, all that planting food, petting my chickens and collecting odd mushrooms, classic gaming!
