Steam Sale!

by Clayton on July 31, 2012

Hi, I logged into the Steam sale…and now I have no money…

Nah not quite. Almost but not quite. I can’t help but buy cheap games for a ‘rainy day’ so to speak and there’s been plenty of rain here. Actually I could easily shorten that to ‘I can’t help but buy cheap games’. So what did I buy in the Steam sale;

Aliens Vs. Predator

Galactic Civilizations II: Ultimate edition

Just Cause 2

Painkiller Overdose, Black Edition, Recurring Evil, Redemption, Resurrection.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II

Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War – Soulstorm

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War Gold Edition

X3: Albion Prelude, Reunion, Terran Conflict.

Well I think that’s all I bought but in my library of games it would be easy to miss a couple. So what have I played so far? First up was AVP, I first played this kind of game on the Atari Jaguar that my mate Rich had so you could say I’ve been a fan for a while. I’d also heard bad things about this particular game but it was cheap! OMFG! Is it jus me or could this be the hardest game ever written!? (apart for obvious contenders Contra, Ninja Gaiden etc.) The guns feel pretty weak; you’d probably do as much damage blowing kisses. Such a shame this franchise lost its way.

Galactic Civilizations II: Ultimate edition – I just fancied something ‘spacey’. This is pretty much Civ in a space environment. Some of the galaxies you can choose in this are ridiculous is size. Fun little game that takes A LOT of thinking to have any degree of success, would recommend this. Superb value for money too.

Just Cause 2 I’ve only played very briefly but looks good. Kind of a blow everything and everyone to pieces for extra ‘stuff’ and that’s always welcome.

I have very fond memories of the painkiller series. Not many games allow you to ‘stake’ baddies to the environment! It’s not too dissimilar to DOOM or Serious Sam for the hundreds of enemies and tons of ammo kind of concept. No reloading, carry a stack of large weapons and stupid AI – love the old school feel.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II – anything and I mean ANYTHING where you can crush tie fighters with the power of your mind and then throw them around has my vote any day of the week! Sure it’s not a new formula on the last one but it is nicely polished and does give the feeling of real ‘Jedi’ power.

Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine – had my eye on this for a while but unless I’m absolutely certain about a game I won’t part with £30 odd for it. I think this was around £8 in the sale and worth every penny. It’s not a million miles away from Gears Of War kind of crossed with Dynasty Warriors. It also has a mode called ‘Exterminatus’ where 4 of you can pit yourselves against wave after wave of incredibly angry orcs. Not sure why they’re so angry, maybe in another life Orcs and Humies could be friends but not here. Hack, slash and blast your way through 20 waves of VERY hard Greenskins – again similar to GOW Horde Mode.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War Gold Edition – in my view the greatest RTS game ever made. Its gritty, fast paced and the weapons are superb. Takes me right back to my tabletop days. Sure I’ve finished it twice but I never finished the Winter Assault campaign, not sure why but I’m sure I will now. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War – Soulstorm – More factions and planetary invasion all set in the above format. Nuff said.

X3: Albion Prelude, Reunion, Terran Conflict. Not actually played this yet but apparently its not to dissimilar to Microsoft’s Freelancer. Although speaking to my friend Alan it has quite a steep learning curve. I then decided to download the original manual for it so I had it at hand. Its 97 pages long… Not yet looked at this but Alan may be right.

I haven’t played Limbo yet but I’m sure I’ll get round to it, the rain is back…

Battlefield 3 Sniper Hunting!

by Clayton on June 26, 2012

During a Wednesday gaming sesh I commented to my friend Jammy that I needed a kill with the engineers repair torch for one of the assignments. Here began the great ‘Look for a sniper all on his own’ hunt. Thought I’d upload the video that Jammy took to commemorate this occasion. Still makes me chuckle so I thought I’d share, enjoy…

Battlefield 3 guide to fast ranking and fast unlocks.

June 18, 2012

I often spend time looking around the internet to find guides to weapons and classes – some of which are useful but most are pretty rubbish. I’ve put in a generous amount of hours now so I decided to collate a few tips that I’ve found useful through playing and NOT through skimming the net. […]

Awesome gaming for Android phones? Don’t mind if I do.

January 17, 2012

I’ve been diversifying from standard gaming of late. A while ago the Android Market Place had a ‘sale’ of sorts where they sold loads of apps and games for between 10p and 15p – bargain at twice the price. So naturally I bought pretty much all of them. I encouraged the usual suspects to buy […]
